In all out truth, the tastiest egg rolls in all of my national and international travels. Found only in my hometown of Rockford, IL. More importantly found in the legendary Chinese restaurant, The Great Wall. Ah yes, the Great Wall. It doesn’t realize what it has in the darkness of their hidden kitchen. Behind a magnificently large piece of sculpture-like art work that hangs 10 feet across. Of course the heart of all its character doesn’t lay in the belly of the kitchen but in the forever echoing voice of the former owner’s wife. Her cheerful greetings, respect for all her patrons and genuine care for my family creates a sense of comfort and familiarity. It’s truly where the magic happens. Don’t forget, her most admirable quality is that she doesn’t give into the wannabe Spring Roll. It’s not on the same paper-thin wrap that is the size of a roll of quarters. Nope, this has a thicker wrap that has been moderately fried and is thicker than a Bucyrus brat. Filled with minced meat and lightly spiced salad that keeps you wanting more. Complimented with red sweet sauce topped with a dab of yellow horseradish sauce. Just enough to give it that zing that makes one’s mouth water.
Till the next tid bit ….
